The Lincoln Stars announced today the club's 28-man roster that will participate during the preseason. The roster consists of 15 forwards, nine defensemen and four goaltenders.
Lincoln has six returning forwards on the preseason roster, including Aidan Thompson, who ranked second on the team in scoring last year (33 points) in his first full USHL season. Noah Laba, Gleb Veremyev, Yu Sato, Griffin Jurecki and Christian Kocsis are all back for Year 2.
On the blue line, the Stars boast an assortment of talent thanks to a mix of new and familiar pieces. Dalton Norris, Carter Schade, Michael Mastrodomenico, Trevor Mitchell and Henry Nelson headline a group of Stars defensemen with USHL experience. Joaquim Lemay, a fourth-round pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft (Washington Capitals), is also in the fold.
With Ryan Ouellette’s departure, the Stars will be tasked with determining a new starter in between the pipes. The Stars made a splash in the first round of the USHL Phase II Entry Draft this past May, selecting Kaidan Mbereko with the sixth overall pick. The 18-year-old netminder spent the last two seasons with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Mbereko started against Lincoln as a 16-year-old during the 2019-20 season, making an impressive 30 saves.
Following training camp at John Breslow Ice Hockey Center, the Stars head to Sioux City for a pair of preseason games. They’ll face Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 11th and Tri-City on Sunday, September 12th. Both games are hosted at Tyson Events Center as part of the Western Conference’s Preseason Shootout. Lincoln's preseason games will be broadcasted on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
More roster cuts are expected to be made before the regular season begins in Cranberry Township, PA, where the USHL Fall Classic returns after being canceled last year due to COVID-19.
