LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (19-16-5) secured a 5-1 victory over the Sioux City Musketeers (15-18-7) on Friday night at the Ice Box.
AJ Hodges broke the ice 3:06 into the first period for Sioux City, capitalizing on the visitors’ first shot of the night.
Christian Sarlo tied up the game for the Stars with his team-leading 17th goal of the season and tenth power-play goal at 17:56. After one period, the Stars were tied 1-1 but outshot Sioux City 10-3.
Lincoln built off the momentum created by Sarlo’s goal in the form of Jordan Power’s third goal of the season at 1:43 of the second period. Matt Miller, who played 126 games with the Musketeers before being acquired by Lincoln in the summer, added his 11th tally of the year at 5:36.
Josh Lopina also fired home his 11th later in the period, beating Musketeers goaltender Akira Schmid on a partial breakaway at 15:05.
After 40 minutes, the Stars were up 4-1 and controlled the shot totals 20-13.
Dominic James continued the offensive barrage at 2:59 of the third period, picking up his second goal of the season.
Jake Mucitelli picked up his 11th win of the season by turning away 14 of 15 Musketeer shots. Schmid stopped 24 of 29 in the loss. Lincoln’s penalty kill was perfect, killing off four of Sioux City’s opportunities with the man-advantage. The Stars were 1-for-5 on the power play.
