LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (18-16-5) were swept by the Omaha Lancers (19-12-7) in their two-game series following a 6-1 defeat on Saturday night at Ralston Arena.
Matt Barbolini broke through for his 14th goal of the season 3:16 into the first period for a 1-0 Stars lead. Brock Bremer and Jacob Bauer picked up the assists on the goal.
The teams exchanged power-play opportunities in the opening period, but the Stars were able to skate away up 1-0 after 20 minutes. Lincoln outshot Omaha 15-10 in the opening period.
In the second period, the Lancers tied up the game quickly with Ryan Lautenbach’s goal at 1:17. Less than two minutes later, Luke Mobley snapped home his team-leading 14th goal of the year at 3:11.
With the Stars on the power-play, Alex Campbell found himself on a shorthanded breakaway, burying his 13th tally at 7:06. Theo Thrun picked up his first USHL goal at 16:17, marking Omaha’s fourth goal of the second period. Jake Mucitelli relieved Connor Androlewicz in net for Lincoln following Thrun's goal.
At the end of 40 minutes, Lincoln trailed 4-1 and was outshot 31-21.
Logan Will added a pair of goals in the third period for Omaha, adding the exclamation point on the Lancers’ ensuing win. Kyle McClellan stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win while Androlewicz allowed four goals on 22 shots. Mucitelli turned aside nine of eleven shots in relief.
With the loss, the Stars had their five-game road point streak snapped. Lincoln was 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, but 0-for-4 on the power play.
