LINCOLN BEATS DUBUQUE 4-2; SCHADE AND URDAHL ALSO SCORE IN HOME VICTORY

LINCOLN, Neb. - Travis Treloar scored twice as the Lincoln Stars (17-14-4) were victorious over the Dubuque Fighting Saints (23-9-1), winning 4-2 on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Treloar got the scoring started exactly one minute in with a Mike Legg-esque goal from behind the net, curling the puck on his blade before roofing it past Dubuque goaltender Aidan McCarthy. Christian Sarlo and Owen Michaels picked up the assists on the Swedish-born forward’s 11th goal of the season.

No. 19 in black and blue would light the lamp once again at the 9:10 mark thanks to a perfect screen by Sarlo, taking away McCarthy’s line of sight. Treloar’s shot from the top of the right circle gave him his 12th of the year. Colby Enns and Anthony Follmer were credited with the helpers.

Matthew Kopperud cut the Stars lead in half at the 12:06 point with a pretty backhand from the right circle, but Lincoln held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes while holding a 14-6 advantage in shots.

Carter Schade would register his second goal in only his fifth USHL game with a coast-to-coast effort 4:37 into the middle period. Brock Bremer received the lone assist on the goal from the Mars, PA native that increased the Stars’ lead to 3-1. Less than two minutes later, Zach Urdahl’s snipe made it 4-1 Lincoln. The University of Wisconsin commit’s sixth goal of the season (and first since November 1st) came at 6:15 with Matt Miller snagging an assist.

After two periods the Stars were in from 4-1, outshooting the Fighting Saints 23-10.

Braden Doyle would add a power-play goal 1:03 into the third, but the Stars held on for a 4-2 victory. McCarthy made 14 saves on 17 shots before being pulled in the second period and Erik Portillo stopped 10 of 11 shots in relief for Dubuque. Jake Mucitelli secured his tenth win of the season for the Stars, turning away 19 of 21 shots.

The Stars were 0-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
