THREE STARS ROOKIES SCORE; LOPINA NETS THE GWG IN THE THIRD PERIOD

FARGO, ND - The Lincoln Stars (13-10-3) rattled off five unanswered goals to beat the Fargo Force (13-8-3) 5-2, sweeping them in a two-game weekend series.

Similarly to Friday night’s game, the Stars fell behind by a pair of goals. First-period tallies from Carter Randklev and Alex Nordstrom put Fargo up ahead 2-0, but Spencer Smith’s power-play goal cut Lincoln’s deficit in half with 3:30 left in the opening frame. It was Smith’s first goal since October 11th and his second of the season.

Owen Michaels would tie the game up at two goals apiece with 3:08 remaining in the second period. Zach Urdahl sent the puck through a defender’s skates to a streaking Michaels down the right wing, who fired it past the right arm of Force goaltender Cole Brady for his third goal of the year. For the first time in his career, Michaels registered points in back-to-back nights. Jacob Bauer notched the same feat with an assist later in the game.

With the Stars on the power play early in the third period, Josh Lopina would give the Stars the lead with his eighth goal of the season. Colby Enns picked up his first point with the Stars by feeding the puck to the left circle, where Lopina would snap a shot over the left arm of Brady at 4:12.

Ty Glover added a well-needed insurance goal at 13:24, lifting a backhander past Brady for his fourth goal of the season. Travis Treloar extended his point streak to six games with an empty-net marker in the dying seconds of regulation.

Ryan McInchak picked up his seventh win of the season, stopping 19 saves of 21 shots. Lincoln outshot Fargo 33-21 in the game, including a 13-3 disparity in the third period. They were 2-for-4 with the man-advantage and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

Lincoln's victory Saturday night marked their 13th win of the 2019-20 campaign, surpassing their total from the 2018-19 season; they are now tied for second place in the Western Conference with 29 points.
