FARGO, ND - The Lincoln Stars (12-10-3) turned to their late-game theatrics to defeat the Fargo Force (13-7-3) 5-4 in overtime on Friday night at Scheels Arena.
Matt Miller’s highlight-reel goal at 4:54 of the overtime frame secured the extra point for the visitors, despite losing forwards Christian Sarlo and Brock Bremer to game misconducts earlier in the game.
The Leo, IN native took the puck from the near-side corner to the deep slot and drove to the goal line while eluding a pair of defenders. With Fargo goaltender Cole Brady down, Miller had the patience to tuck the puck around him and backhand it into a wide-open net. The sequence was remarkable, but the way the Stars battled to tie the game at four was even more dramatic.
With the Stars down 4-2 late in the third period, Jordan Power took matters into his own hands, scoring a pair of goals 4:56 apart. His first goal of the season came at 14:37 off a feed from behind the net from Josh Groll to get the Stars within one.
Lincoln’s captain would come up big once again in the final seconds of regulation, firing a shot from the point off the crossbar and in with 27.4 seconds left in the game. Power’s game-tying goal came while the Stars had a 6-on-4 advantage.
Jacob Bauer scored his first career USHL goal in the second period while Bremer also lit the lamp (his sixth tally of the year) 3:48 into the third.
Ryan McInchak made 33 saves in the victory while Brady stopped 36 of 41 shots. Lincoln was 1-for-4 on the power play and killed off 5-of-7 penalties.
The Stars snapped a two-game losing streak with the come-from-behind win, improving to 12-10-3 (27 points) on the season. They currently reside in third place in the Western Conference.
