LOPINA AND GROLL NAMED TO 2019 WJAC TEAM USA ROSTER

STARS FORWARDS TO COMPETE IN WORLD JUNIOR A CHALLENGE NEXT MONTH

Lincoln Stars forwards Josh Lopina and Josh Groll have been selected to the 2019 World Junior A Challenge U.S. Men's Junior Select Team, USA Hockey announced today. 

Lopina and Groll will compete in the 2019 World Junior A Challenge, which will take place in Dawson Creek, B.C. from December 7-15. 

Groll, a University of Michigan commit, leads the Stars with nine goals this season and is second on the club in points with 16. The San Diego, CA native registered nine goals and nine assists in 53 games last year with the Chicago Steel.

Lopina, who is committed to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, has scored four goals and added nine assists this season in Lincoln. The 18-year-old forward from Minooka, IL ranked third on the Stars in points (28), fourth in assists (16) and fifth in goals (12) during the 2018-19 campaign. 

This year's World Junior A Challenge will once again consist of five teams: Canada East, Canada West, Czech Republic, Russia and the United States.

In tournament history (since 2006), the United States has won the World Junior A Challenge eight times (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018). Team USA beat Russia 2-0 in the title game last year in Bonnyville, Alberta.
