Dubuque, IOWA - The Lincoln Stars (8-6-2) dropped their second game in a row as they were bested 5-1 by the Dubuque Fighting Saints (10-2-1) at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Saturday Night
After not leading at any point over their last three games, Christian Sarlo drew first blood early for Lincoln with a power-play goal 1:19 into the first period. It was Sarlo’s fifth goal of the year and his team-leading fourth PPG. The Fighting Saints followed his goal up with Dylan Jackson’s game-tying tally (also on the power play) at the 3:00 mark of the opening period.
Both teams headed into the first period intermission tied at one goal apiece after Ryan McInchak stopped Ryan Beck on a penalty shot. Dubuque outshot the Stars 12-5 in the first set of 20 minutes.
The Fighting Saints took the lead 8:35 into the second period thanks to Antonio Venuto’s goal after the forward knocked the puck out of the air past McInchak off of a third-chance opportunity. Ty Jackson scored with under 10 seconds to go in the second frame, doubling Dubuque’s lead. Lincoln found themselves in a two-goal hole after the second period and the Fighting Saints continued to keep their foot on the gas pedal in the third.
Riese Gaber’s two goals separated by 1:38 in the latter stages of regulation put the game out of reach.
Lincoln was outshot 32-20 in the game and the Stars have lost four out of their last five games. Despite that, they are still second in the Western Conference.
The Stars will try and end their skid against the Fargo Force on Saturday night (November 23rd) at the Ice Box at 7:05 p.m. Get your tickets online here: https://stars.isportstix.com/order/seats/329/43
