CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (8-5-2) were defeated 3-0 by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (9-6) at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Friday night.
Max Sasson got the scoring started for the RoughRiders 7:29 into the first period, getting a piece of a shot from Ben Meehan for his 3rd goal of the season. Following a scoreless second period, Nikolai Mayorov lit the lamp for the seventh consecutive game, doubling Cedar Rapids’ lead 11:48 into the third period. It was Mayorov’s third goal in two games against the Stars this season.
Nate Hanley added an empty-net goal at 19:23, sealing the win for the RoughRiders.
Lincoln struggled for offense all night long, firing only 23 shots on goal while allowing 37. Derek Mullahy picked up the shutout for the home team, locking up his sixth win of the year.
A bright spot in Friday’s game was Stars goaltender Jake Mucitelli, who made 34 saves on 36 shots. The Clarkson University commit made ten-bell saves all night long, including a dazzling right pad save on Jordan Tonelli early in the third period. The Stars failed to score on their lone power play of the game but killed off all four minor penalties they took.
Lincoln will close out their two-day road trip tomorrow against the Fighting Saints (9-2-1) tomorrow in Dubuque.
