LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (8-4-1) turned to their late-game heroics again on Saturday night, defeating the Sioux Falls Stampede (2-8-1) 4-3 in overtime at the Ice Box.
Anthony Follmer's first goal in 56 games (November 24th, 2018) served as the game-winner with under 50 seconds left in the extra frame. It was the O'Fallon, Missouri native's first goal with the Stars after being traded from the Stampede last March.
Follmer skated through the neutral zone after getting a pass from Brock Bremer, chipped the puck to himself and fired a shot from the left circle past the left arm of Grant Adams.
The manner in which the Stars forced overtime was just as dramatic.
Matt Miller tied the game with less than 30 seconds to go in regulation while the Stars were shorthanded. It was Miller's first goal in nine games ... when he scored shorthanded (yes, shorthanded) against Sioux Falls on October 11th.
Lincoln found themselves trailing 2-0 heading at the 10:05 mark of the first period following Stampede goals from Brian Carrabes and Ryan Sullivan.
Christian Sarlo quickly responded on the power-play for the Stars 12:54 into the opening frame. Sarlo's PPG was his second in as many games and his fourth goal of the season.
Blais Richartz knotted up the game at two 4:05 into the third period in his second game since being acquired from the Omaha Lancers.
Jake Mucitelli made 22 saves in the win, picking up his fourth victory of the season. Grant Adams stopped 34 shots in the defeat.
Lincoln was 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Stars snapped their two-game skid while the Stampede have now lost four straight.
