Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (7-4-2) came out flat against the Omaha Lancers (5-6-2) and lost 6-2 at the Ice Box on Friday night.
Slow starts plagued the Stars yet again as the Lancers got the scoring started 2:42 into the first period thanks to a goal from Rhett Pitlick.
Christian Sarlo responded with a power-play goal under four minutes later, snapping a four-game drought with the man-advantage (0-for-16 during that timeframe). It was the Penn State commit's fourth goal of the season. Jordan Power picked up the secondary assist on the goal, marking his league-leading 12th assist (tied with the Chicago Steel's Sean Farrell).
Pitlick added another goal under two minutes following Sarlo's PPG and Omaha took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Lancers came out flying in the second period, potting two goals 85 seconds apart within the first three minutes of the middle frame. Logan Will and Grant Anderson scored, respectively. After two periods, it was 4-1 in favor of the visitors.
Omaha's power play capitalized again in the opening minute of the third period, with captain Jack Randl lighting the lamp. Matthew Sutton notched the sixth and final goal for the Lancers 5:05 into the final frame.
Matt Barbolini scored his career-high eighth goal of the season at 16:49 in the third period when the Stars had a four-on-three power play.
The Stars outshot the Lancers 28-18, but struggled mightily in the special teams categories early in the game. Their penalty kill was 3-for-6 and their power play was 2-for-8. Ryan McInchak stopped 13 shots in the defeat while Kyle McClellan made 26 saves.
Friday night's loss marked the first time the Stars had lost at home in regulation (3-1-1).
