URBANDALE, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (7-3-2) overcame a three-goal deficit, but came up short against the Des Moines Buccaneers (6-4-1), losing 6-4 on Saturday night at Buccaneer Arena.
For the second consecutive game, Lincoln fell into a 3-0 hole following a first-period goal from Vincent Salice and two second-period markers from Mason Nevers and Matt Choupani.
However, like they have all season long, the Stars fought back, scoring three goals over a span of 3:41 in the latter stages of the middle frame. Josh Groll’s shot from the right circle on a delayed penalty got Lincoln on the board 27 seconds after Choupani’s goal. Ty Glover scored his 3rd goal of the year 33 seconds following Groll’s snipe.
Brock Bremer capped off the rally with a backhand-forehand move to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left in the second period.
Groll’s added his ninth goal of the season came 4:40 into the third period, giving the Stars their first lead of the game. But unlike their comeback victory against the RoughRiders, Cooper Fensterstock tied up the game at four with his first career USHL goal.
Noah Ellis made it 5-4 with his goal power play with under five minutes to go in the game, regaining the lead for the Buccaneers.
Des Moines added an empty-netter to solidify their third straight win. Lincoln had their five-game point streak snapped, but sit atop the Western Conference in points with 16.
The Stars will try and bounce back next Friday night (November 8th) against the Omaha Lancers! Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. at the Ice Box! Get your tickets here: https://stars.isportstix.com/order/seats/329/41
