STARS’ CHAD JOHNSON SIGNS EXTENSION AS HEAD COACH AND GENERAL MANAGER

The Lincoln Stars today announced that Chad Johnson has signed an extension to remain with the team as Head Coach and General Manager through the 2014-’15 season. Johnson began his tenure with the team in 2010, and has compiled a USHL career record of 116-71-12 in three seasons with the team, including a USHL Western Conference regular season championship in 2011-’12.
“We’re pleased that Chad will be staying with the Stars for at least the next two years,” said Stars President Jim Pflug. “With three successful seasons in the books, he’s obviously well-deserving of an extension to his initial three-year contract that expires later this month. Chad brings a calm confidence to the team, a demeanor that encourages development among his players, and critical in building teams that compete for championships each year. With Chad and Associate Head Coach Jimmy McGroarty behind the bench, we have two different, but yet complementary styles, that enable them to get the most out of their players, and gives us the most experienced staff in the USHL.”
“I’m very excited and thankful to the Stars organization for the opportunity,” said Johnson. “I’ve always believed Lincoln to be the best junior franchise in North America, and there’s no question that the fan support is second to none. Expectations are high here, and we’re looking forward to a very competitive camp in June. Our goal is to find players that will help us take that next step, a team that will compete every night and make the fans proud.”
McGroarty will enter his 8th season with the Stars, and his 13th in the USHL. “We’re fortunate to be surrounded by a great staff, both administratively and on the hockey side,” continued Johnson. “Jimmy’s knowledge, network, and passion for the game make him a key part of our success, and his experience in this league continues to be a huge asset for us.”
With the USHL Draft recently completed, the coaching staff will now focus on the annual tryout camp scheduled for June 6th-9th at the University of Minnesota’s Ridder Arena.
